BEHAVIOR

Behavior:
Third grade is a big transition year. In third grade, our once "baby owls" are now becoming the more mature, "big owls" of the school. This is why it is so important that we follow the school expectations of being responsible, respectful, safe, and ready to learn. Those little kids around the school are watching the big third, fourth, and fifth graders, so we have to set good examples!

We are using an online system this year called "Class Dojo." Students are able to earn points throughout the day for all sorts of different tasks (homework, helping others, creativity, following directions... you name it!) Students can also receive negative points if they are not following classroom rules. A weekly goal is set. Students who make their goal by Friday are eligible to participate in Fun Friday. Students who go above and beyond their goal earn treasure box!

Parents can log in to Class Dojo using the activation code provided in your child's agenda book. Also, weekly reports are emailed directly to parents.

Rewards:
Our wonderful third graders have lots of opportunities to earn rewards for good behavior!
  • Table points: Each table is viewed as a team. The team has to work together to exhibit good behavior. Table points are awarded to tables who follow directions the first time they are given, are able to transition quickly from one subject to another, and show overall cleanliness (get desks cleared before switching classes, nothing left on the floor, supplies at the table are straightened and put away neatly.) When a table earns 20 points, they get to choose a treat!
  • Character Pillar Tickets: Each month we have a new character pillar. Students exhibiting that pillar earn a ticket. Tickets are put into a raffle in the cafeteria, and drawings for prizes take place on Springwood in the Morning every Wednesday.
  • Outstanding Owl: Students who have exhibited the Character Pillar of the Month to the fullest extent are eligble for the Outstanding Owls reward. Each month an Outstanding Owl is chosen from each class. The Outstanding Owl then has lunch with Dr. Small and Mrs. Austin, along with the other Outstanding Owls from other classes. It's a real treat!
